EHS Manager Role Summary:
The EHS Manager is accountable for establishing Environmental Health & Safety needs, facilitating training, and implementing programs and objectives required to safely and efficiently complete railcar repairs at the facility. Expansion to existing facilities and new opportunities will require motivated, trained, and safety-oriented individuals to meet the expected workload and customer requirements. Current employees will also require ongoing skills enhancement and safety training to meet current and future standards.
The EHS Manager will report directly to the Regina Service Centre Manager and maintain a dotted line reporting relationship to the Director of Health, Safety, and Environmental – Shops.
This key leadership role will be responsible for the implementation and adherence to safety policies for the Regina Service Centre, including employee training, safety programs, and performance reporting.
Environmental Health and Safety training, safety enforcement, Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) achievement, and team supervision are key objectives of this position.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Initiate, promote, implement, and maintain Environmental Health & Safety projects and initiatives.
- Update, maintain, and deliver Environmental Health & Safety orientations for all new employees to ensure understanding of potential risks and safe workplace behaviours.
- Conduct monthly safety audits with the EHS Committee and ensure timely follow-up and resolution of identified issues.
- Provide accurate statistical reports on medical aid, WSIB incidents, lost-time injuries, absenteeism, and disability data.
- Communicate effectively with management regarding safety performance and compliance matters.
- Monitor workplace conditions and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
- Maintain Environmental Health & Safety bulletin boards and ensure relevant updates are posted.
- Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements, including audiometric testing, air quality, forklift safety, WHMIS, First Aid, and Workplace Safety and Health Committee standards.
- Monitor, update, and communicate company Health & Safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Conduct hazard analyses and ergonomic assessments for all work centres.
- Ensure all Safe Work Procedures are current and complete.
- Investigate accidents thoroughly, communicate findings, and provide necessary training and corrective measures.
- Manage occupational injuries and illnesses, liaising with WSIB and insurance providers as required, including appeals.
- Oversee disability management and return-to-work programs to ensure employee well-being and compliance.
- Promote positive employee relations through communication, coaching, and proactive engagement.
- Support company initiatives and maintain a positive, results-driven attitude toward achieving EHS goals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree, diploma, or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Environmental Health & Safety management, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Professional designations such as CRSP, CRST, or NCSO are considered ideal.
- Strong knowledge of safety and environmental legislation and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proven experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Self-starter with excellent initiative, capable of setting and achieving goals independently.
- Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate employees at all levels.
- Expertise in influencing decision-makers and fostering a proactive safety culture.
- Ability to create a collaborative team environment focused on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
