Our partnered hiring client is a national industrial corporation managing a fleet of more than 31,000 conventional and special-purpose tank and freight cars.
Major industries served include: petroleum, renewable fuels, LPG, petrochemicals, plastics, chemicals, fertilizers and food. Customer rail car fleet sizes range from single cars to fleets in the thousands.
They’re currently seeking to welcome a Health & Safety Compliance Specialist to join their team in Edmonton, Alberta.

Job Summary:
The Health, Safety & Compliance Specialist will provide expertise, support and guidance to all health, safety and compliance matters; and is accountable for establishing and maintaining compliance through training literature, audits, and implementation of return-to-work programs.
A Primary of Specific Duties & Responsibilities Includes:
The following outlines key responsibilities required for the Health Safety & Compliance Specialist:
- Ensure compliance meets all legislative requirements
- Develop and review/update existing standards and procedures as necessary, as per legislative requirements in accordance with the North American/Canadian Safety program unification.
- Act as a resource in the creation and development of work instructions
- Communicate to management as required
- Identify and report on trends in near-miss reporting, incidents, events and/or work observations utilizing EHS Insight
- Ensure completion of incident reporting in EHS Insight and follow-up with Company sites if necessary
- Create incident alerts with the assistance of site contacts
- Generate daily toolbox talk topics to address trends identified in EHS Insight
- Perform safety audits of Company sites
- Participate in the development and implementation of safety policies, procedures, and initiatives
- Update, maintain, and present health and safety orientation for all new employees to ensure a complete and effective understanding of potential risks and expected behaviors within the workplace
- Monitor and recommend corrective action
- Maintain Health and Safety bulletin boards
- Conduct effective hazard analysis as needed
- Work with company sites to ensure the completion of Worker’s Compensation Board documentation
- Liaise with WCB and Company sites regarding appeals and return to work
- Manage the WCB appeals process
- Perform other related duties as required
To be considered for this role, the Health Safety & Compliance Specialist have the following qualification:
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- 3-5 years of experience in Health & Safety Compliance role within an industrial or construction or railroad/railcar or repair/service facility sectors
- Demonstrated experience in safety legislation, environmental legislation, and training. Preference will be given to individuals holding a CRSP, CRST, NCSO designation and a minimum of three years of experience.
- Previous training in lean manufacturing, six sigma, ISO standards, and audits is considered an asset
- Proven abilities in inspection and testing, safety & quality control records and documentation, non-conformance, root cause analyses, corrective and preventative actions, technical training
- Exposure to external and internal audits conducted by regulatory organizations, customers and corporate office
- Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong computer and communications skills
