We’re supporting our hiring client, in transportation/railing sector to recruit a health & safety compliance specialist to join their team based out of Edminton, Alberta.
Our client is one of Canada’s largest full service lessor, with a fleet of more than 30,000 cars. Their head office is located in Oakville, Ontario, and they operate an extensive service network comprised of major repair facilities, mini-shops, and on-site repair teams.

Reports to: Director of HSE
Role Summary:
The role of Health & Safety Compliance Specialist is accountable for establishing and maintaining compliance through training literature, audits, and implementation of return to work programs, ensuring that railcar repairs are safely performed. The successful candidate will provide expertise, support and guidance to all employees at the repair facilities across Canada for a period of three months.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities Specific duties and responsibilities include
- Work with Company sites to ensure the completion of Worker’s Compensation Board documentation
- Liaise with WCB/WSIB and Company sites regarding appeals and return to work
- Manage WCB/WSIB appeals process
- Develop and review/update existing Standard and Procedures as necessary, as per legislative requirements in accordance with the North American Safety program unification.
- Act as a resource in the creation and development of work instructions
- Identify and report on trends in near miss reporting, incidents, event and/or work observations utilizing EHS Insight
- Ensure completion of incident reporting in EHS Insight and follow-up with Company sites if necessary
- Create incident alerts with the assistance of site contacts
- Generate daily toolbox talk topics to address trends identified in EHS Insight
- Perform safety audits of Company sites
- Participate in Responsible Care as required
- Perform other related duties as required
To be considered for this role, the “Health Safety & Compliance Specialist ” must have the following qualification:
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- 3-5 years of experience in Health & Safety Compliance role within a production or repair/service facility
- Demonstrated experience in safety legislation, environmental legislation, and training
- Previous experience in railcar or railroad industry considered an asset
- Previous training in lean manufacturing, six sigma, ISO standards, and audits considered an asset
- Proven abilities in inspection and testing, safety & quality control records and documentation, non-conformance, root cause analyses, corrective and preventative actions, technical training
- Exposure to external and internal audits conducted by regulatory organizations, customers and corporate office
- Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong computer and communications skills
