Role Summary:

The occupational health & safety coordinator will report to the health & safey manager and will work have the following roles and responsibilities with the corpoartion’s health and safety department.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities Specific duties and responsibilities include

  • Maintain the current H & S Program.
  • Enforce the Implementation of the H & S program.
  • Case Manage Injury Claims under the direction of the Health & Safety Manager.
  • Participate in Third Party H&S Audits under the direction of the Health & Safety Manager.

Maintain the current H & S Program:

  • Ensure all policies contain the current Legislative requirements.
  • Ensure that all Safe Work Practices & Safe Work (job) Procedures are current and present on each job site.
  • Ensure that all workers & supervisors have the current legislated H&S training, and each person can produce a valid training card to Ministry Inspectors when on the job site.
  • Arrange & provide training to the workers & supervisors as required.
  • Ensure that all legislative Posting Requirements are present on job sites.
  • Ensure work plans are present on all projects using Suspended Work Platforms Systems.

Enforce the Implementation of the H & S program.

  • Visit job sites and conduct spot inspections of site documents/reports, equipment, and field safety operations.
  • Maintain records of site visits
  • Ensure site Safety & Toolbox Talks are being done.
  • Ensure Practices & Procedures are being followed.
  • Conduct in house training sessions.
  • Interact with Ministry Inspectors as required.

Case Manage Injury Claims

  • As per the Return to Work / Reintegration Program as per consultation with the Health & Safety Manager.

Under rare circumstances the position may require some travel within Canada 

    To be considered for this role, the “Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator” you’ll have the following qualification:

    • Bachelor’s Degree/College Diploma in Health & Safety or Environmental Studies or Engineering
    • Entry level- One year of experience in Health & Safety roles, preferably in the construction industry
    • Working knowledge of provincial health and safety laws/regulations
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Ability to work with different levels of management
    • Project management skills 
    • Strong computer skills including office work related software, e.g. Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
