The candidate can be based in Manitoba, Alberta, or British Columbia; however, the rotational project is located approximately 150 km north of Yellowknife.

Health & Safety Officer Role Summary:
This role is tied to a major remediation project with an expected duration of approximately two years. The project is currently in its second year and operates under a robust Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Program and Site-Specific Health & Safety Plan (SSHSP).
The Health & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that field hazards are effectively controlled and that all safety requirements are strictly followed. The role works closely with the Site Superintendent to support EHS initiatives in the field.
The site is located approximately 150 km north of Yellowknife and is accessible only by float plane or helicopter. All staff reside in a fully serviced camp facility with meals provided. Rotations typically run 2–4 weeks, with a schedule of 7 days per week at 12 hours per day.

Rayrock Site, Northwest Territories (remote site)
The Project:
The hiring company is the prime contractor responsible for the remediation of a former uranium mine site. Work includes a wide range of environmental and construction activities such as:
- Construction and maintenance of winter roads
- Internal road upgrades and maintenance
- Mobilization of heavy equipment and fuel transportation
- Camp operations including catering, waste management, and water treatment
- Drilling, blasting, and crushing operations
- Construction of containment facilities and sediment removal
- Excavation, earthworks, and land reshaping
- Mine shaft closure and environmental protection
- Hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling and disposal
- Reclamation and revegetation of impacted areas
- On-site fuel management and final demobilization
Health & Safety Officer Primary Duties & Responsibilities include:
- Implement and maintain the Site-Specific Health & Safety Plan (SSHSP)
- Implement and maintain the Emergency Response Plan (ERP)
- Support site leadership in enforcing safety protocols
- Lead daily safety meetings and toolbox talks
- Maintain safety boards and postings
- Monitor compliance with safety regulations and company policies
- Promote a proactive safety culture across the site
- Conduct site inspections and ensure corrective actions are completed
- Investigate incidents and prepare reports with corrective recommendations
- Lead risk assessments and support Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)
- Chair health and safety meetings
- Provide onboarding and safety training to new workers
- Maintain training records and documentation
- Monitor wildfire conditions and air quality
- Manage PPE inventory and distribution
- Coordinate with workplace safety boards and regulatory bodies
- Collaborate with corporate EHS teams, clients, and subcontractors
- Prepare weekly H&S activity reports
To be considered for this role, the “Health & Safety Officer” must have the following qualifications:
- College diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or related field
- NCSO designation or equivalent
- Minimum 7 years of experience in construction, mining, oil & gas, or heavy industry
- Experience working in remote camp environments
- Experience working with First Nations communities
- Strong knowledge of provincial and territorial OHS regulations
- Experience with contaminated sites or hazardous waste environments (HAZWOPER or equivalent is an asset)
- Familiarity with NWT OHS regulations and WSCC requirements
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) awareness
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Proactive attitude with the ability to work independently
