Our client is devoted to providing sulphur forming and logistics services to efficiently move vital raw materials to market. The company allows producers to export to overseas markets or the U.S. market with both solid and liquid rail loading capabilities.

An Overview of the Role :
The Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager is responsible for developing and executing the HSE management system and leading the company’s HSE efforts in maintaining a safety-focused culture. The HSE Manager will ensure policies, procedures, documentation, culture, and communications are compliant with all applicable laws, codes, and industry best practices. This includes validation of the HSE management system and reporting to ownership. The role is also responsible for assisting in budget preparation and management for HSE related items such as PPE, safety gear, and life safety infrastructure.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide leadership for the HSE team in the areas of health and safety. Mentor team leaders and individuals in HSE culture, expectations, and best practices. Lead by example and drive a safety-first culture aligned with company core values.
- Define HSE needs and objectives in safety and safety training.
- Identify, track, and communicate key metrics for the HSE system and identify areas for improvement.
- Conduct or coordinate safety training for all staff and orientations for stakeholders.
- Conduct an annual comprehensive review and audit of the HSE management system to ensure compliance with internal policies, codes, regulations, OH&S rules, and industry best practices.
- Develop and implement hazard identification tools.
- Direct and enforce all aspects of the HSE management system, including Life Safety Rules, policies, and procedures for safe work practices.
- Provide advice and guidance to employees and management on safety policies, regulations, and practices.
- Lead and document incident investigations and ensure all incidents, hazard IDs, non-compliance, and related events are properly documented and tracked.
- Maintain current and accurate SDS files for all required materials on-site.
- Provide training, guidance, and direction for the company’s Emergency Response Plan to all employees and management. Lead the Emergency Response Team and its training.
- Conduct regular plant walk-through inspections.
- Ensure plant operating procedures are up to date and consistent with the HSE Management Program.
- Ensure onsite safety library is complete and regularly updated.
- Ensure staff training is current. Guide and direct the Training and HSE Coordinator to maintain proper training records.
- Be available to respond to emergencies after hours if necessary.
- Liaise with URO HSE to ensure company compliance with URO safety requirements.
- Other duties related to HSE as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- 6+ years of Safety and Industrial Health & Safety experience.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating ability to perform responsibilities of the position.
- NCSO, CRSP, or other related designations are considered preferred.
- Knowledge of federal, provincial/local industrial health, safety, fire prevention rules, regulations, and related strategies.
- Knowledge and experience with COR and management system auditing.
- Familiarity with developing safety policies & procedures.
- Ability to coordinate and deliver safety education and training.
- Proficient in computer operations and supporting software.
- Strong leadership and motivational skills for individuals and teams.
- Ability to compile and analyze data, develop metrics, and perform cost-benefit analysis.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Conflict identification and resolution skills.
- Effective problem-solving abilities.
