We’re supporting our hiring client in the chemical manufacturing and distribution industry to recruit an HSE senior coordinator join their team based in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

The hiring client is a national company all across Canada.

Role Summary:

The HSE Senior Coordinator is responsible for all HSE activities and will work closely and in partnership with site personnel to proactively develop, implement, train, and maintain HSE initiatives. Previous experience in chemical and/or manufacturing industries is ideal for this role.

The candidate will be leading meetings, conducting inspections, and writing procedures and must be comfortable spending significant time on-plant, which requires wearing PPE, including a full-face respirator or self-contained breathing Apparatus.

The HSE Senior Coordinator reports to the Plant manager. This position is on-site. The hours of work are normal business hours. This is an 18-month contract, with the option of full-time employment

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Conduct monthly inspections of all work areas with rotating members of the operation team to ensure compliance with all government regulations and the company’s policies and procedure.
  • Prepare inspection reports, assign corrective actions for noted deficiencies, and follows up to ensure they are addressed.
  • Report safety violations, injuries, and substance releases to the appropriate regulatory authorities and upper management.
  • Complete incident investigations, determine root causes and provide recommendations and corrective and preventive actions.
  • Facilitate & document Job Hazard Analysis
  • Creates and revises HSE procedures with the goal of becoming COR compliant.
  • Complete a gap analysis for the site to establish priorities for improvements to the work environment to comply with all health and safety regulations.
  • Provide safety materials for weekly Toolbox meetings
  • Lead quarterly JHSC meetings and inspections.
  • Complete environmental reports to applicable regulatory agencies as required
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with the company’s employees and contractors.
  • Communicate changes in operations, policies and procedures to relevant parties
  • Other duties as assigned

To be considered for this role, the “HSE Senior Coordinator” must have the following qualification:

    • Occupational Health & Safety Diploma, Certificate, or Degree would be an asset. Equivalent experience will be considered
    • 7-12 years of health and safety experience
    • Chemical or Manufacturing experience would be an asset
    • JHSC experience
    • Solid knowledge and experience of provincial legislative requirements
    • Knowledge and experience with COR
