An Overview of the Role & the Project:
Under the direction of the HSE Director, the HSE Site Advisor will collaborate and work with the operational team to ensure all activities are properly planned, with all health and safety hazards identified and appropriate controls implemented to mitigate risks.
The Project is to install the foundations for the New Orleans bridge close to Quebec City. This work will involve using heavy equipment to drill and pour concrete reinforced piles and there will be daily lifting operations.
The position starts in Mid-April 2025, will be site-based, and the project duration will be from 6 to 9 months with the possibility of going beyond 9 months.
The position will be 40 hours per week with the possibility of rising to 60 hours per week when work commences. The person must be within driving distance from site.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Workplace Inspections and Audits: Regularly conducting inspections of work areas to identify potential hazards, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and documenting findings.
- Incident Investigation: Thoroughly investigating workplace accidents and near misses to determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent future occurrences.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identifying and evaluating workplace risks, developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies, and prioritizing safety concerns.
- Safety Training and Education: Delivering safety training programs to employees at all levels, including new hire orientations, refresher courses, and specific job-related safety training.
- Policy Development: Contributing to the development and implementation of company safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Consultation and Advice: Providing expert advice to management and employees on health and safety matters, addressing concerns, and recommending solutions which assist the site team to overcome H&S challenges and ensures production continues as best as possible.
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensuring adherence to all relevant Quebec occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, and standards.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Tracking safety performance metrics, analyzing trends, and generating reports to identify areas for improvement.
- Site Meetings: To attend site meetings including daily shift meetings, toolbox talks, and any other meetings required on site within the Bauer team or with the client.
- Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Postsecondary education in health & safety, environmental or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in health and safety in the province of Quebec in large construction projects or construction sector.
- Must be bilingual (English/French)
- Must have completed ASP training
- Proficient in analytical problem-solving and adept at making informed decisions.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate employees at all levels of the organization.
- Knowledgeable about Occupational Health and Safety as it pertains to the construction sector.
- Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, and developing corrective/preventive action plans.
