An Overview of the Role :
The Laboratory Quality Technician will assist in assuring that all products made and distributed from the site are done so in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, while meeting all internal quality specifications. Reporting to the Technical Services Supervisor, this position will at times receive instruction from the Chief Technology Officer to assist the Process Improvement, completing trials and experiments needed to achieve the company’s growth goals. A strong working relationship with the Operations Teams is also a requirement of this position. This position will also cross train with the QA/QC Laboratory Technician.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct trials and experiments to support the Process Improvement and Sales Teams.
- Communicate off-spec product to the Production Manager and Technical Services Supervisor.
- Analyze raw material and assist in the evaluation of potential suppliers.
- Ensure all quality records are being updated and maintained on a regular basis.
- Assist with investigations, root cause analysis and develop and implement corrective actions for quality issues and concerns.
- Conduct analysis of raw materials and finished products, including alcohols, xanthates, dithiophosphates.
- Use various methods and equipment, including FTIR, GC, HPLC, pH, specific gravity, titrations and turbidity.
- Assist with the development, generation, and delivery of CofA’s for products.
- Retain samples for quality control checks and stability studies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Degree, post-graduate certificate, diploma or equivalent in Quality, Chemistry or Chemical Technology.
- 1-3 years experience in quality management particularly in a laboratory role preferred.
- Experience with GC and HPLC considered an asset.
- Chemical or Manufacturing experience would be an asset.
- Experience with formulation and research considered an asset.
- Able to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
