Role Summary:

As a Regional Environmental Supervisor, you will lead environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives across multiple sites, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and corporate environmental policies. Your role will involve developing and implementing environmental management systems, overseeing environmental assessments, audits, and reporting. Collaborating closely with operations, health and safety teams, and external stakeholders, you will drive continuous improvement in environmental performance, minimize operational impacts, and promote sustainable practices within the region.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Ensure company operations adhere to federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations, including the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) guidelines.
  • Conduct routine environmental audits and inspections across sites, identifying risks and ensuring corrective measures are implemented.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies, staying informed on updates to environmental policies that impact oil and gas activities.
  • Oversee waste management programs, ensuring proper disposal, recycling, and reduction practices are followed at all regional operational sites.
  • Monitor water usage and quality in alignment with environmental permits and industry best practices, focusing on reducing the company’s ecological footprint.
  • Implement strategies for minimizing water contamination and managing hazardous materials, including spill response and prevention plans.
  • Drive the implementation of environmental best practices and foster a culture of continuous improvement in sustainability efforts.
  • Coordinate environmental training and awareness programs for staff to ensure ongoing compliance and sustainability initiatives are integrated into daily operations.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive environmental reports to internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain environmental records, including permits, compliance documentation, and monitoring data, ensuring they are updated and readily available for audits.
  • Work closely with legal and compliance teams to ensure all necessary environmental documentation is aligned with corporate and legal requirements.
  • Supervise a regional team of environmental professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure team members are adequately trained and certified to perform their roles, particularly in handling environmental hazards and compliance matters.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as Health, Safety, and Operations to ensure environmental considerations are integrated into broader operational planning.
  • Lead environmental incident investigations, including spills, emissions, and other environmental breaches, developing mitigation strategies and corrective action plans.
  • Act as the primary point of contact during environmental emergencies, ensuring quick response and coordination with relevant agencies and internal teams.
  • Analyze incident trends and develop proactive measures to reduce environmental risks across the region.
  • Support the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, focusing on environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, the “Regional Environmental Supervisor” must have the following qualifications:

  • University Degree in Environmental Science or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in environmental management, including leadership positions.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in environmental assessment, remediation, and reclamation.
  • Skilled in forecasting, resource planning, utilization, and P&L management, with strong business acumen.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and influencing abilities, with a track record of successfully managing multiple projects in high-pressure, deadline-driven environments.
  • Proven capability to build strong relationships with diverse teams, prioritize tasks effectively, adapt to evolving priorities, and proactively resolve challenges.
  • Strong collaboration and conflict resolution skills.
