Role Summary :
The Senior Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Instructor is responsible for developing and delivering advanced training programs in workplace safety, compliance, and regulatory standards. This role involves instructing a diverse audience, including employees, managers, and external clients, on best practices for maintaining safe and compliant work environments.
The instructor will design course materials, update training content to reflect current regulations and standards, and lead both virtual and in-person sessions. They will also assist clients with safety certifications and compliance goals, and provide mentorship to junior instructors. This role requires extensive knowledge of OHS, excellent communication skills, and a passion for promoting a proactive safety culture.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Develop and deliver advanced OHS training sessions including workshops, seminars, and hands-on safety training.
- Design and improve training materials including presentations, handouts, assessments, and e-learning modules.
- Conduct in-person and virtual training sessions, using engaging teaching methods tailored for various formats.
- Evaluate training effectiveness using feedback and performance metrics and make improvements accordingly.
- Stay up to date with changes in OHS laws, regulations, and industry best practices, integrating them into content.
- Support clients in achieving safety certification and compliance goals through tailored training and post-training support.
- Participate in 4S Train-the-Trainer programs and maintain certifications such as Working at Heights and JHSC.
- Conduct site inspections and safety audits to ensure compliance and reinforce training principles.
- Travel to client sites across the province to deliver training programs tailored to client needs.
- Maintain training records and report participant progress and certifications per regulatory requirements.
To be considered for this role, the “Senior Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Instructor”
must have the following qualification:
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Minimum 5+ years of recent experience in OHS or a professional OHS designation or equivalent education/training experience.
- 100+ hours of adult education delivery in the last 5 years or completion of instructor training grounded in adult learning principles.
- Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, especially industrial and construction regulations.
- Experience delivering training in JHSC, Working at Heights, Aerial Equipment, Forklift, Confined Space, etc.
- Valid and current certifications for the topics being instructed.
- Strong instructional, communication, public speaking, and participant management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Technical proficiency in computers and mobile applications for training delivery and admin tasks.
